Broadcast Competition – FAQ – content

Q: What is current relation of global citizenship and BC focus?
A: 3 strands (intercultural dialogues, knowledge economy and climate security)

Q:  Is this going to be an annual program?
A: The Broadcast Award is a competition that we hold in conjunction with British Council’s 60th anniversary. In Indonesia, this would be the first program of its kind, and we look forward to having a good participation from all parties involved. We’d like to continue hosting these kinds of programs, but we will have to reassess the situation.

For the upcoming years, it will depend on the result of this year.  We certainly hope that this competition will make a significant contribution to people’s perception about being a global citizen

Q: Why have you excluded radio?
A: Radio stations have been tremendous supporters for British Council for many years and we are deeply thankful for their support. However this is the first British Council broadcast competition and right now we only focus on television.

Q: Where can I apply?
A: Application forms can be downloaded from our website at www.bcnow60.org. In supporting our campaign of being a responsible global citizen, we try not to give out hard copy application forms, so we can save paper. Participants who would like more information can also email to bcnow60@britishcouncil.or.id

Q: What are the judging criteria?
A: Since our campaign for our 60th anniversary is to be a responsible global citizen through Intercultural Dialogue, Creative Economy, and Climate Security, the content of the program must be somewhere along those lines. We also judge artistic value and we cooperate with prominent figures who are expert in their fields to be the board of juries.

Q: What is global citizenship?
A: Global citizenship is both a moral and ethical disposition which might guide an individual or groups’ understanding of the local and global contexts — and their relative responsibilities within different communities. We hope, through this initiative, people will have more understanding of the global citizenship context. More info can be found in www.britishcouncil.or.id

Q: Can participant submit multiple entries?
A: Yes, you can send more than one entry as long it meets the competition requirements.

Q: What do you expect from the winners upon returning to Indonesia?
A: As an organization for educational opportunities and cultural relations, of course we want the winners to have a better understanding of the UK cultures. Since we are focusing on global citizenship in our 60th anniversary, we expect the winners, after returning to Indonesia, to spread the message of the importance of being a responsible global citizen.

Q: Why will only two people be sent? As we know, teamwork in television involves more than two people.
A: We are considering these two people as our “ambassadors” to spread the spirit of intercultural understanding through dialogues and to remind people about being a responsible global citizen through the program, which they will make at the end of their fellowship program.

Q: Any requirement minimum length of the programme?
A: Minimum 3 minutes
